Brighouse Denholme Road Speed limit
As many Thornton residents will know thier has been a campaign to reduce the speed along Brighouse Denholme Road from the speed limit from 60 to 40 miles per hour.
The proposal to reduce the speed limit came before the Bradford West area committee yesterday with the officer recommendation to reduce the limit to 50 miles per hour.
After a robut discussion where i put forward the merits of reducing the speed down to 40 around the farm shop and down towards Thornton I am pleased to inform you that the committee decided to ignore the officer reccommendation and reduce the speed to 40 miles an hour. It also agreed to extend the 30 mile an hour limit from Queensbury down past the junction with Perseverance Road.
This is good news for local residents and will improve road safety in the area and improve access from side roads onto the main road.

The population of Thornton is growing. As well as putting a strain on the local schools and roads they biggest issue we face as a community is the health provision we receive from the PCT. A recent letter sent to our local NHS by the community council received the reply that they have no plans to invest any additional funds in Thornton over the next five years. I believe this is a terrible state of affairs. We have in Thornton an ageing population. The current services we receive although good are provided in small cramped facilities with no room for expansion. The medical centre also is bursting at the seams. We need better facilities and should demand that the PCT hold a consultation with our community to discuss the services we have in our area. To do this we have to work together to deliver better services. Therefore through Thornton Community partnership I and local resident and campaigner Melanie Milnes have put our heads together to campaign for a health consultation. BUT we need your support. To do thus the community has to work together so we need you to show your support by signing one of the petitions around the village and by taking part in our survey. In the past they tried to relocate the chiropodist to allerton but after campaigning it was returned to Thornton. Given the increased costs of attending hospital in Bus fares and parking costs should we not benefit from the same service other practices have to offer and not a two tier health service.
Please complete the survey and sign the petition and we will work on your behalf to improve our health service for Thornton.

The last few years -
Things are moving forward in Thornton. Since I was first elected in 2004 I along with my colleagues have made it important to improve Thornton as an area. We were successful in securing £75,000 of funding and then a further £50,000 to develop the village as part of the Conservative led council’s urban village initiative. We have seen the eyesore of the toilet block demolished and replaced with an attractive community open space. This is well used by all the community and has been well received. We are still developing the field on sapgate lane and i am please to say that I was successful in bidding for a further £4000 to continue this work. Again we will be ensuring local residents are given the opportunity to get involved.
Welcome to Thornton signs (i know its in the wrong place) on Thornton Road, improved Christmas lights switch on, free football and rock climbing sessions, paying for youth work at Branwell House, £750,000 investment in a new gym and of course the gala resurected, just some of the things as a local councillor i have been involved in whilst a councillor between 2004 and 2007.
Now the challenge is to build on this and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to continue the work i have already done and the work i shall be looking forward to deliver for the village..
